There are very different opinions on the number of chickens that can fit in a chicken coop. Therefore, this is an estimate that is roughly set. We primarily base this on the size of the night house. Chickens often get extra run space outside the coop. Thus, we do not determine the number of chickens based on the size of the chicken run.

Small Chicken Breeds:
  • Weight of hen up to approx. 1 kg
  • Serama bantam, Welsummer bantam, Dutch bantam, Silkie bantam, Lakenvelder bantam, Cochin bantam, New Hampshire bantam, Barnevelder bantam, Wyandotte bantam.
Medium-Sized Chicken Breeds:
  • Weight of hen up to approx. 1 - 3.5 kg
  • Wyandotte bantam, Barnevelder, Leghorn, Sussex, Faverolles, Marans, Brown laying hen, Gray laying hen.
Large Chicken Breeds:
  • Weight of hen from approx. 3.5 kg
  • Brahma, Cochin, Orpington, Wyandotte, Mechelse cuckoo, Amrock, Plymouth Rock, Bielefelder.
